Frequently Asked Questions
What is psychotherapy?
What kind of therapy do you practice?
Therapy is an individualized experience. Psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy focuses on how your self-understanding and relationships with others may be influenced by things out of your awareness and by your past, such as early childhood experiences. I use tools from CBT, which focuses on improving coping skills by recognizing unhelpful patterns in thinking, feelings and behaviors. I also draw on family/systems therapy to understand how you may be affected by your social environment.
How long does therapy last?
Therapy can be short- or long-term. In the beginning of treatment, I typically meet several times with a patient in order to create a therapy plan that is suitable and mutually agreeable.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty for the treatment of psychological illness. Typical illnesses treated by psychiatrists include depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, ADHD, substance abuse, personality disorder, schizophrenia, as well as a variety of other diagnosed and undiagnosed illnesses.
